Please check the CDC website for up-to-date information regarding the Zika risk. Currently the actual risk in the area is not higher than (for example) Katie’s hometown of Austin, Texas…BUT many clinics still have policies regarding travel outside the U.S. and to specific regions. Please make sure to communicate with your clinic prior to signing up and make sure to read the pregnancy policy below.
Travel Tips
Fly into Cancun International airport (CUN). Please note that Cancun is in the state of Quintana Roo and El Cuyo is in the state of Yucatan. There is a time difference of 1 hour in the winter months for WINTER DAYLIGHT SAVINGS. Please make sure to double check the time zones well as you plan your travel.
From Cancun Airport to El Cuyo, travel time is approximately 2.5 hours door to door. Airport transfers will be arranged for you and communicated ahead of time by Katie. Our drivers are very safe and reliable and will transport you privately and directly from the airport to our beach house. Please send your full flight details to Katie at your soonest convenience and we will try to pair you with others traveling on a similar schedule to and from the retreat. The cost of these transports is included in your retreat package.
There are no ATMS in El Cuyo. You will likely need little to no cash in Mexican pesos if you do not plan to travel in Mexico outside of our retreat itinerary. All retreat expenses are included in the package price, minus one dinner out at a restaurant that will accept major credit cards. In Katie’s experience in the area, other incidentals such as coffee and smoothies at local cafes are also easily purchased with a credit card. There are very few options for drugstore type facilities, so do make sure to pack your essentials. The nearest larger city of Tizimín is about an hour away by car. In addition, there is not a lot of shopping in El Cuyo as it is a quiet town with beach and chill.
Wifi is not the most reliable and does come in and out at times along with the electricity though it has been very consistent in Katie’s last few visits. If it does go out it usually comes back fairly quickly and offers a nice chance to sit back and relax and watch the sea or stars. If you need super reliable internet please let us know to discuss this further. We tell guests you can count on accessing the internet at some point throughout the day if needed, but you may not want to count on a signal at an exact time of day (for example, trying to join a work meeting virtually.) The idea is to unplug and be offline as much as possible.
